First Friday at Village Gallery to Feature Red Carpet Fashion Show
The Village Gallery in the Village of Oak Creek is well-known by local residents and visitors alike for its many-flavored collection of artists’ works, including wearable art and personal fabric creations. The public is invited to enjoy a very special ‘fashionable’ First Friday Art Walk on July 1st, thanks to artist/member and local fabric designer, Florence Johns who will present her newest line of original “It’s a Flo’s” clothing in a red carpet fashion show. With the help of other gallery artists as models and plenty of food, wine and lively conversation, the evening promises to be a special one.
‘Flo’ is a Florida transplant who relocated to the Verde Valley in 1989 and has no plans to leave any time soon. In fact, she adamantly says, “I love it here and will never leave this beautiful Red Rock Country!” Her interest in fabric design began early in her life; she turned her passion into art and eventually a career by taking garments apart and redesigning them for her own pleasure.
“It’s A Flo’s “ original patterns and designs include elegant shoulder wraps, flowing short and long tops, light dresses and more, all created in vibrant colored light weight solids and prints that illustrate artistic intent. She also has created a line of unique braided strands of brightly colored yarns that substitute for more traditional scarves. “I see fashion design as an art: the female form is the canvas and the medium is fabric.”
In addition to wearable garments, the artist also makes colorful flags for use in dance performance and worship, and her “By Intentional Design” fabric sculptures on canvas are one of a kind.
Flo has a third specialty as well: “I offer my seamstress skills to local residents in need of clothing alterations.” For more information, she can be reached at her personal number, 284-9184.
The July First Friday Art Walk takes place from 5 to 8 pm, and the Fashion Show will begin at 5:30. The Gallery continues to showcase the exciting and beautifully inspirational photographs of Guest Artist, Jody Miller, horse photographer through the month of July. Her extraordinary photos of America’s favorite 4 legged beauties are not to be missed!
