Artist Nancy Axelrod

I never considered myself an artist – my brother and sister have had art running through their veins since they were little and both have art degrees- I became a bookkeeper.

I did make quilts as an adult, mostly for family and friends but considered it a hobby, not “art”. I still love quilts but seem to have outgrown the desire to tackle large amounts of fabric. I wanted to try something new and decided to make a cactus out of felt. I was hooked! I love the process of slow stitching, and the end result is often not what I thought it would be like, most times better! Each piece “talks” to me, letting me know what looks best, where a piece should go, and in the case of my Youdoo dolls, what their names are and showing me a bit of their personalities. Each piece is one of a kind, no two are ever the same.

I am also an energy worker so I add my intention that each piece brings as much joy to the new owner as it did to me while I made it.

I recently moved to Ariizona and can’t wait to see what new creations zI can come up with using my new home as inspiration.
