The Village Gallery will host Guest Artist Evelyn Gholson

evelyn-gholsonDuring October and November, the Village Gallery of Local Artists will display the mosaics of Guest Artist Evelyn Gholson. Her work will be celebrated in a festive reception on Friday, October 7th from 5-8pm.

Any found object with possibilities can become raw material in one of Evelyn Gholson’s mosaics. In an exploration that blends design, texture and dimension, the results are aesthetically pleasing compositions, evocative of renewal.

Raised on a ranch in Texas, Evelyn Gholson’s love of the outdoors first drew her to collect found objects, from birds’ nests to old bottles, rocks and dried flowers. She discovered in this early endeavor a sense of connectedness and continuity with nature, memories and creative expression. Today, these personal emotions are communicated through her mosaics.

Evelyn and her husband Mike both had careers in the electronics industry, which took them to Florida, Colorado, Taiwan, Korea and finally brought them to Arizona for the past 28 years. She has since attended Brio Fine Arts in Scottsdale, AZ, and received training in mosaic arts at Sedona Arts Center.

Evelyn was awarded Sun Dust Gallery’s “Artist of Distinction” in 2010, was juried into the AZ Attorney General’s Offices Art Show 2011-2012, received First Place in Sedona Winefest Juried Art Exhibit 2013, and placed in the top 3 of Mixed Media in Sedona Arts Center’s 2015 & 2016 Juried Member’s Show. In June 2015, she joined 6 other international artists to design and install a large mosaic on a city building in Mulranny, Ireland.

Also at the First Friday reception for Evelyn Gholson, Village Gallery member artist Mary Burnham will offer caricatures for sale. Mary says “My caricatures are always flattering and fun. It takes under 10 minutes and is painless, can be framed or used for target practice.” Refreshments will be served and many other member artists will also be on hand to meet the public.

The Village Gallery of Local Artists is located in the Village of Oak Creek at the roundabout on Hwy 179 and Cortez. For more information call 284-1416 or visit www.sedonalocalartists.com.
